KG Pioneer Trail: Inauguration of KG Pioneer Statue

Monday, September 27, 2021. As a form of respect and gratitude for the dedication of the pioneers, Kompas Gramedia (KG) will today hold the inauguration of the KG Pioneer Statue. Located in Bentara Budaya Jakarta, this activity also coincides with the birthday of one of KG pioneers, Jakob Oetama.

The existence of KG today is inseparable from the struggle and dedication of P.K. Ojong and Jakob Oetama. Both have different backgrounds, but share the same passion and ideals to enlighten society through quality journalistic products. Two characters united in the same spirit make both often dubbed as Dwi Tunggal KG. In the hands of P.K. Ojong and Jakob Oetama, KG continues to survive the challenges of all ages. The value of integrity, humanism, and cooperation that has always been taught by the two pioneers became kg's foundation in developing the business until now has 8 business pillars.

Related to pandemic conditions, the inauguration of the KG Pioneer Statue was attended on a limited basis by the head of the KG unit. KG employees throughout Indonesia can also watch the event through YouTube streaming on various KG unit accounts. Not only employees, YouTube streaming is also open to being watched by retirees and kg pioneers wherever they are, including the public in general.

The presentation of statues of P.K. Ojong and Jakob Oetama in Bentara Budaya Jakarta can be a momentum for the entire KG extended family to better get to know the figures and values inherited by both as the initial foundation of KG.

Guided by Glory Oyong, the statue pioneering event began with an opening prayer led by Ninok Leksono as Rector of Multimedia Nusantara University. Then continued with a speech by Sindhunata as Curator of Bentara Budaya.

In his speech, he expressed his happiness and gratitude for the presence of statues of the two KG pioneers on the left and right of the Bentara Budaya building. He also said in addition to respect for the services of the two pioneers, but also a reminder not to forget that the importance of a culture that defends humanity.

"This activity is our gratitude and dedication to Mr. Jakob Oetama with P.K. Ojong, during his life and pioneering Kompas Gramedia," said Mrs. Mariana Ojong, as a family representative of Mr. P.K. Ojong in his speech.

Then the addition of him is his hope for the presence of statues from the two pioneers can be a reminder of the values that have been instilled by previous pioneers to all components of the Kompas Gramedia. And at the end of the speech, he also thanked those who had participated in the presence of the pioneer statue.

Another speech was also delivered by a representative of the family of Mr. Jakob Oetama, Mr. Irwan Oetama. He in his speech conveyed a little about his little story while with his father, as well as some of his journeys when he started pioneering.

"Man is born not without God's plan, there must be talent," he said when recalling the philosophy that his father had conveyed to him.

Mr. Irwan Oetama also explained that with this philosophy, Mr. Jakob Oetama founded Kompas Gramedia as "Little Indonesia". With the intention that anyone can work, as a crucible of diverse human talents. And in Kompas Gramedia these talents are appreciated and given the opportunity.

Then Mr. Jusuf Kala who also attended online expressed his congratulations and appreciation for the pioneering of the second statue of the pioneer. Then he also conveyed related to the principle carried out by two pioneers, namely respecting customers honestly and optimism, giving trust to employees, and finally giving trust to owners.

On this occasion also displayed 3 traditional dances consisting of 2 places of origin of both pioneers and came from the area where the two collaborated to build a business. Namely dances from Central Java, West Sumatra, as well as from the land of Betawi.
