Universitas Multimedia Nusantara became the greenest private campus in Jakarta in the implementation of UI Greenmetric 2020. This year, UMN was ranked 199th out of 912 campuses in the world after last year being ranked 213th. The ranking of commitment-based universities in environmental management is the first in the world to be an important moment for UMN who has been committed to environmental awareness from the beginning.
Greenmetric UI is momentum for UMN to prove that UMN's commitment from the beginning in preserving the environment has now become an important trend in the world. This is evidenced by UMN's achievements that have achieved a fairly high ranking increase. "Ui Greenmetric is proof that what UMN does is appreciated," said UMN Vice Rector II Andrey Andoko.
Since the beginning, UMN has been committed to the contribution of preserving the environment by building energy-saving buildings to achieve energy efficiency and a comfortable environment for each activity. "From the beginning when building the campus, UMN carries the concept of a campus that is green, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient. UMN joined the new Greenmetric UI in 2016. That is, this was long before the Greenmetric UI was held," continued Andrey.
UMN annually strives to improve the achievement of Greenmetric UI as a form of commitment to the contribution of preserving the environment. Greenmetric UI assessment consists of three main pillars, namely environmental, economic, and social. "UMN excels in energy and climate change, and water management; what needs to be improved is waste management, transportation management, and education/research," said Andrey.
UMN's achievements in the Greenmetric UI 2020 deserve to be appreciated with a rising world ranking. The number of participants this year reached 912 universities from 84 countries in the world and UMN was ranked 199th. In Indonesia, there are 88 participating universities and UMN is in the top 20 and becomes the greenest private campus in Jakarta. Therefore, in 2021 UMN will host the Greenmetric UI for the LLDIKTI III region.
"UMN will improve renewable energy, better waste management, and increase research," said Andrey explaining UMN's commitment to organizing the next Greenmetric UI.
For UMN, UI Greenmetric is a good initiative to invite universities around the world to compete to make green campuses environmentally friendly as a form of university concern for environmental sustainability. "Ui Greenmetric is also in line with UMN's commitment in contributing to preserving the environment by building an environmentally friendly campus, which is green, shady, and energy-efficient," Andrey concluded.
