LEWOLEBA, LEMBATA, NTT, Sunday, December 6, 2020 – The eruption of Mount Ili Lewotolok in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) is still ongoing. Since the first eruption on Monday (30/11) and then until Thursday (3/12) early morning based on the monitoring of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) located at the Ili Lewotolok Volcano Observation Post, the height of the ash column is still observed about 200 meters above the summit, with a thick intensity leaning westwards. Under this condition, the status of the volcano is set to be at level III or 'Standby'.
The Lembata Regency Government established an emergency response status for 14 days, starting from November 29, 2020, to December 12, 2020. Meanwhile, data as of December 2, 2020, at 22:00 WIT, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Lembata district reported the number of displaced people as many as 7,968 people and spread across 20 shelters and houses.
In response to the disaster that happened to our brothers and sisters, Yayasan Dana Kemanusiaan Kompas distributed humanitarian assistance from Kompas daily readers in the form of masks, bedding, rice, cooking oil, sugar, other personal needs, and children's activity books. Assistance is focused on people living in people's homes (their families or relatives), with the consideration of refugees who are in official posts have received logistical assistance from the government.
Distribution of aid through the Catholic Church, specifically 5 parishes within the city (Lewoleba) and two parishes outside the city. The seven parishes are Francis Asisi Lamahora Parish, King Wangatoa Parish of Christ, St. Maria Banneux Lewoleba Parish, Arnoldus Yansen Waikomo Parish, Francis de Sales Pada Parish, Waipukang Parish, and Hadakewa Parish.
