In honor and appreciation to Jakob Oetama Faculty of Social and Political Sciences University of Indonesia (FISIP UI) in collaboration with Kompas Gramedia inaugurated the academic multipurpose room "Space Cendekia multipurpose Jakob Oetama", Thursday, 26 September.
Located on the 6th floor of building H FISIP UI, Depok, this room became a campus facility for lecturers, researchers (including Visiting Scholar/Visiting Fellow) and research guidance, students. Formal and informal activities in this multipurpose room are expected to generate a variety of important social science contributions to the public.
The inauguration of the space Cendekia multipurpose of Jakob Oetama was attended by Irwan Oetama, Lilik Oetama, the UI rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M. Met., dean of FISIP UI Dr. Arie Setiabudi Soesilo, M. Sc., and leader of UI, faculty, and lecturer in the FISIP UI environment. "We want to provide the best facilities possible to the friends of the faculty and researchers of FISIP UI to continue to be passionate and innovative to develop social research and thinking community in Indonesia. We remember that Mr. Jakob Oetama is a consistent figure seeking to advance the world of education through his journalistic activities. He also developed a mass Communication science education at Universitas Indonesia, "said Dean of FISIP UI, Arie Soesilo.
This room which took 18 weeks' renovation is supported by comfortable facilities and modern nuance. "May the multipurpose space Cendikia Jakob Oetama can open the collaboration rooms between Kompas Gramedia and Universitas Indonesia," said Corporate Communication Director KG Rusdi Amral.
Jakob Oetama was once faced with the two professional choices he had been asked for, as a teacher or as a journalist. In 1963, with P. K. Ojong, Jakob Oetama finally published the magazine Intisari, a choice that became one of the turning points that changed the path of his life. Dreams as a teacher he continued by teaching as a lecturer in the Faculty of Social Sciences (before his name changed to FISIP) at the campus of Rawamangun District in 1973-1983. (*)
