Two animated film works by two teams of students of UMN’s (Multimedia Nusantara University) Animation Department won the 20th DigiCON6 Asia, an annual short film competition organized by the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS).
This was announced at the DigiCON6 Asia Awards on Saturday, October 20th, in Jakarta. The animated film Keluarga Satu Setengah (One and a Half Family) by Michaela Clarissa Levi, Robert Sunny, and Raffael Arkapraba Gumelar tells a story of a child named Agung who has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and his mother who has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This team defeated all participants from Indonesia and won the 20th DigiCON6 Asia Regional Indonesia Silver Prize.
Animated film titled Life of Death by Jason Kiantoro and Bryan Arfiandy tells a story about how an angel of death does its daily work. The moral of the story is everyone should use the best time of their lives. It won the Next Generation and Gold Award. This animated film had also been nominated in film festival as well as chosen on some movie screening such as The Canadian Labour Film Festival 2018, Global University Film Awards 2018, Austin Film Festival 2018, and many more.
Both animated film works along with the production teams will be sent to Japan for the next contest level against 11 other Asian countries, namely Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. This is the most awaited moment by both UMN teams. The festival atmosphere and meetings with fellow filmmakers from various Asian countries are the most anticipated experience. For Jason Kiantoro, getting to know filmmakers from various countries and different backgrounds would broaden his insight.
Another work won The Japan Foundation Award, Jakarta Prize was a short film entitled Turut Berdukacita by Winner Wijaya, Christian Raditya, Antonius Willson, Cornelius Kurnia, Indra Susanto, Harris Tobing, and Ando Loekito. The film was based on true story about a child who kept telling the chronology of his father’s death at the funeral to all the mourning guests until he could not feel sad anymore. This film was also selected in various screening such as Sewon Screening in Yogyakarta, ReelOzlnd! Festival in Australia and Indonesia. (ADA / CRA / UMN)
