Jakarta, 15 March 2023 - Educational institutions have an important value in advancing the quality of human resources. Supporting the important role of the existence of the world of education, Kompas Gramedia received a visit from Satya Wacana Christian University (UKSW) students on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Attending this visit was the Head of the S1 Public Relations Study Program UKSW Dr. Rini Darmastuti S.Sos., M.Si., Supervisor Dian Novitasari M.Si., along with Communication Science students of Satya Wacana Christian University. The group of students was received at Bentara Budaya Jakarta by Deputy Managing Editor Caroline Damanik and Corporate Communication KG Devin Airlangga. This visit is a means to increase students' understanding of the relationship between media and technology as well as tips for adapting in the era of increasingly rapid technological development.
Corporate Communication KG Devin Airlangga opened the event by conveying a brief history of the birth of Kompas Gramedia to the presentation of the development of business units owned by Kompas Gramedia from year to year to students. In the session, Devin Airlangga said that Kompas Gramedia has developed into a multi-industry company that moves with 8 main pillars.
"This year Kompas Gramedia will enter the age of 60 years, more precisely on August 17. As a company that has been established for a long time, of course, Kompas Gramedia strives to continue to be relevant to its customers. By continuing to transform, now Kompas Gramedia has 8 main business pillars, namely Media, Retail &; Publishing, Hospitality, Manufacture, Education, Event and Venue, Property, and Digital. Kompas Gramedia can survive and develop so far because we strive to continue to be relevant and maintain the quality of services provided to the public," said Devin.
Devin Airlangga also explained that one of the biggest factors for a company to survive is a good reputation. Kompas Gramedia has the high trust of the public and all existing business units also uphold the 5C value owned by Kompas Gramedia, namely customer delight, competitive, caring, competence, and credibility. These five values are the main reference for all business units of Kompas Gramedia.
On this occasion, Caroline Damanik representing Kompas.com also added that Kompas.com has its own role as a media. Caroline also explained how journalistic activities still cannot be replaced by AI technology at this time.
"Actually, journalistic activities cannot be replaced by technology such as AI, because many codes of ethics can only be done by human reason. Examples such as filtering which parts of the news deserve to enter the media, how to make a piece of writing not double meaning, and so on. Therefore, journalistic activities actually do not require multitasking, but must be multiskill," said Caroline.
After the students were considered familiar enough with Kompas Gramedia and Kompas.com, the visit continued with a question and answer session. The questions asked included how students wanted to know more about Kompas Gramedia and journalistic activities on Kompas.com.
The visiting session went smoothly thanks to the high enthusiasm of the students through a series of questions submitted. Kompas Gramedia reciprocally responds to questions and further enriches students' knowledge about how to gain public trust and journalistic activities. The visit was closed by giving prizes to two selected students who had submitted interesting questions. Before the students of Satya Wacana Christian University said goodbye, the group visited Studio 1 and KompasTV Control Room. Through the short tour, students observed the media production process and discussed with practitioners about Kompas Gramedia's public relations activities that continue to adapt to answer the needs of the community.
This visit is an implementation of Kompas Gramedia in its mission to contribute directly to building an increasingly advanced and leading world of education with the hope that the knowledge shared can be useful and transmitted to other fellow students. This is in line with Kompas Gramedia's vision to enlighten the community, one of which is by supporting Indonesian universities as the spearhead of the nation's next generation.
