Commemorating the momentum of International Education Day which falls every January 24, Gojek and Gramedia Academy inaugurated the graduation of 440 driver partner children in the comprehensive English Language Training program for 3 months. This soft skills education program has been implemented from November 2022 to January 2023 in 10 cities in Indonesia, such as Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Solo, Sukabumi, Tasikmalaya, Serang, Cirebon, Karawang, and Purwokerto.
This program is the umpteenth collaboration between Gojek and Gramedia Academy in its consistency to have a positive impact in the field of education. Not only that, but ELTI also collaborated as an organizer of comprehensive English training program courses in several cities, such as Tasikmalaya, Purwokerto, and Yogyakarta.
Strategic Regional Head of Gojek Central, West Java, & D.I.Y Farid Isnawan said, "This education program is part of Gojek's efforts to provide access to better livelihoods for partner families in the future. In this period, Gojek increased the coverage area of training recipients to 10 cities. Since 2017 to date, more than 600 driver partner children have received learning opportunities and graduated with achievements."
Consistently, Gojek collaborates with Gramedia Academy as an accredited educational institution by providing practice-oriented learning programs and implementations that can be used to support children's abilities in the future. This initiation is a form of Gojek and Gramedia Academy's dedication to the nation by providing opportunities for Indonesian youth to get a better education.
Gramedia Academy General Manager Jerry Udampo said, "When talking about international education day, it is irrelevant not to talk about education that is international in nature, namely English. The English education program chosen by Gojek is very appropriate. By using the communicative teaching method, the children of driver partners can build an English-language foundation that can be used as their foundation to be able to further explore this ability."
"Of the many Gojek programs that have an impact on its stakeholders, this empowerment program with education is in line with the vision of Kompas Gramedia, which is to brighten the life of the nation. We at Gramedia Academy are very proud to be able to collaborate," Jerry continued.
Enthusiastic Hundreds of Gojek Partner Children Participated in the Selection
To get the opportunity of this course, hundreds of partner children have participated in the selection carried out since early October 2022 and took a placement test for the placement of English classes according to the test results.
The series of selection processes for prospective training recipients includes a selection for driver-partners (performance, honesty, and loyalty) and a selection for driver-partner children (motivation and selection of academic abilities). This program is regularly held and is part of the Gojek Swadaya program which focuses on encouraging the improvement of the lives of driver partners and families.
"Having the ability to speak a foreign language, especially English, is something that needs to be instilled from an early age because English is an international standard language. With English courses, it is not only the ability to understand that we can get, but also the ability to speak, hear, read, write, and compose English words properly," said Farid.
For 3 months, partner children will get comprehensive educational programs such as writing, listening, and conversation that help them master English. At the end of each lesson, the partner child is asked to complete several tests to measure his or her progress in the language. Furthermore, Gojek hopes that this skill is believed to help partner children become talents in the digital era who can adapt to the future world of work.
Part of the Gojek Swadaya Sustainable Program
Since its launch in 2016, the Gojek Swadaya program has continued to strive to encourage the improvement of the lives of driver partners and families. In addition to reducing education costs for driver-partner children, various initiatives at Gojek Swadaya are prioritized:
1. Ease the operational burden on driver partners through cheap credit, vehicle maintenance discounts, daily shopping subsidies, and cheap meal packages.
2. Protect driver partners through a variety of comprehensive add-on insurance programs for partners and families, including accident, health, and partner asset protection (mobile phones, vehicles, and attributes). This is outside of occupational accident insurance which is covered if the driver partner has an accident while carrying a passenger.
3. Providing access to be able to plan and manage finances and the future well through savings programs, loans, and affordable mortgage installments.
The variety of useful initiatives from the Gojek Swadaya program can be realized through the support of many parties, including through cooperation with company partners and application service fees paid by Gojek customers.
Since 2016, the Self-Help Program has helped millions of Gojek Partners and families in a sustainable manner.
Mitra Gojek Bandung Ramadhan expressed his appreciation "I am grateful and feel helped by this program. For me and my family, education comes first. My son can learn well and I can continue to strive for the best for him."
"Thank you Gojek and Gramedia Academy, therefore I can save other funds for future educational needs," continued Ramadhan.
In addition to providing learning opportunities for non-academic skills, Gojek annually opens opportunities for driver-partner children to continue their education at polytechnics that focus on the world of work. The opportunity is in the form of a scholarship for 3 years which is fully borne by Gojek. All initiatives carried out by Gojek in the field of education have the aim of improving the welfare of driver partners and their families.
