Urban Farming is a farm located in Urban. Usually, Urban Farming is implemented by the community or local residents to grow crops on limited land. Urban farming usually focuses on agricultural crops, such as: eggplant, chili, lime, kale, taro, cassava and so on. However, the processed products in urban farming reap some problems that are quite complex to overcome, for example, inadequate land in urban areas, infertile land, and also limited water resources. These problems can be solved through several programs carried out by Non Government Organizations (NGOs) and Corporate Social Responsibility owned by local companies. Programs owned by local stakeholders can make it easier for environmental activists at Urban Farming to survive in a sustainable manner.
Like Kompas Gramedia, the sensitivity to this issue makes Kompas Gramedia participate through the Corporate Social Responsibility program in the company's area. The concept of the program is called Kampung Koran, there are various CSR programs, one of which is Urban Farming. The targets of this Urban Farming Program are in the area of RW 02, Gelora Village, Tanah Abang District; RW 06 Kebayoran Lama District; and 14 North Grogol Village, Kebayoran Lama District.
One of the Urban Farming managed by Kompas Gramedia, namely RW 06 managed to excel at the kelurahan level to become 1st place in the Urban Farming administration assessment category (13/09/2022). Previously, in 2019 Urban Farming in RW 06 also won 2nd place in the category of assessment of plantation products. The competition is held at the Village level and the winners who are selected will continue in the competition to the District level. The form of appreciation or prizes obtained in the form of plant seeds and trophies.
This form of achievement was obtained thanks to the hard work of the cadres and the surrounding community. Because these activities are not only managed by the cadres, but also involve local residents to develop individually. The forms of plants that are managed are chili, eggplant, spinach, kale, taro, and others. Apart from plants, RW 06 also cultivates catfish. The results obtained from cultivation are not only for personal consumption, but also used by the community to be traded to the surrounding community. The sales proceeds were then used to develop Urban Farming RW 06.
This RW 06 Urban Farming brings benefits to the residents and great expectations from the Head of RW 06 Widyaningsih. “This Urban Farming activity provides benefits not only for the surrounding community, but also for each individual involved. We run Urban Farming like refreshing the brain from the daily routine. We hope that in the future, Urban Farming RW 06 will be bigger and receive regular assistance.” he said.
On the same occasion, Community & CSR Analyst Kompas Gramedia Kimung also expressed his hope. "This award is expected to be a trigger for enthusiasm for urban farming cadres, so that they continue to transmit green environmental awareness to the wider community, especially those living around North Grogol," he said.
