In the discussion session, the Chair of Komnas Perempuan Andy Yentriyani raised several issues related to policies regarding women that are important to be known and monitored together, including by the media in Indonesia.
The hope is that the media will be able to help fulfill the human rights of women and create a safe and free environment from all forms of violence against women.
Veryanto Sitohang also said that in increasing women's participation and awareness about women's protection, collaboration with the media is needed to disseminate information and oversee crucial issues.
One of the challenges faced by Komnas Perempuan is related to literacy and public education which is still limited. This was conveyed by the Sub Commissioner. Bahrul Fuad Community Participation Commission.
“Of the many factors that cause violence against women, one of the main problems is literacy that is still low. Access to information is a problem, especially for women in remote areas due to Internet constraints. This is also experienced by friends with disabilities, because the information disseminated is not yet accessible. They are less educated to deal with and report cases. This is what we are still fighting for to face layered vulnerabilities,” he said.
Various concerns and challenges faced by Komnas Perempuan were responded to by the openness of Kompas Gramedia for discussion and cooperation in terms of publications and education to the public. The discussion session closed with a group photo. Kompas Gramedia is committed to continuing to collaborate with various parties, both companies, organizations, and government institutions in an effort to enlighten the nation.
