The level of literacy in Indonesia until now is still quite low compared to other countries, many factors cause the level of literacy in Indonesia to below, one of which is due to the limited availability of books with the interest of people who want to read. The number of books makes literacy levels low.
The development of literacy not only occurs in formal schools but also in other places such as foundations, boarding schools, community reading parks (TBM), libraries, even in small community environments. Many places can be a forum for the development of literacy but are not supported by the availability of adequate books.
Seeing this, Kompas Gramedia initiated social contribution activities as a form of corporate social responsibility in the form of educational assistance to help improve literacy in Indonesia through the donation of #AkuBaca books to various TBM, one of which is TBM Karang Taruna RW.07, Kampung Tegal Rotan, Sawah Baru Village, Ciputat Subdistrict.
On Friday, December 3, 2021, Kompas Gramedia through the CSR program Inspiration Education Movement #AkuBaca visited TBM Karang Taruna RW.07 Kampung Tegal Rotan in Ciputat to provide educational assistance in the form of reading books to support learning activities and improve literacy in the TBM. This activity was welcomed by TBM.
"The donation assistance of #AkuBaca from Kompas Gramedia is very helpful for the future of children to be better in terms of insight and knowledge, so I think whatever is given from Kompas Gramedia is very beneficial," said Chairman of Karang Taruna RW.07 Junaidi Abdullah.
Previously, TBM Karang Taruna RW.07, Kampung Tegal Rotan actively activities with children in the surrounding environment every Saturday and Sunday, ranging from drawing, storytelling, preaching, writing, etc. Since the pandemic, TBM Karang Taruna RW.07, Kampung Tegal Rotan stopped activities because of concerns that if they held activities there would be many children who crowded so that activities at TBM stopped temporarily. On Friday, December 3, 2021, TBM Karang Taruna RW.07, Kampung Tegalrotan was reopened for children to learn and play.
"We from the volunteers of the reading park, especially the RW.07 area, are very grateful for this program, not unexpectedly also that reopening the reading park where we can also attend the help of books from Kompas Gramedia because previously our reading park was closed because of the pandemic, many children were impatient to come again to the reading park. Finally today we can open again the reading garden and there is also a book from Kompas Gramedia making the children more enthusiastic and excited again. Hopefully, the help of books from Kompas Gramedia is useful for volunteers and for children, hopefully not only in our reading park but can go to other reading parks as well, all can return to the community, the synergy between the community and Kompas Gramedia, "concluded Chairman of TBM Karang Taruna RW.07 Hairulloh.
On the occasion, KG CSR Analyst Mochamad Ardiyanto also expressed his hopes regarding this #AkuBaca book donation program.
"We also did not expect the moment would be right when we sent the book turned out to be the new TBM reopening after the pandemic, we also saw the spirit of children and parents clearly visible when watching the reopening of TBM. Our hope is of course with the help of these reading books, children can be more eager to learn and friends of TBM administrators are also more eager to guide children, "said Mochamad Ardiyanto.
