Help Kompas Daily Readers Through Kompas Humanitarian Fund for Survivors of Mount Semeru Eruption

Lumajang, December 6, 2021 – Kompas Daily Readers through the Kompas Humanitarian Fund Foundation (YDKK) provide assistance to residents affected by the Eruption of Mount Semeru. The distribution of aid was handed over to the local government at the center for the collection of aid for refugees, namely Pendopo Arya Wiraraja, Lumajang Regency, East Java.

The assistance distributed on Monday (6/11/2021) is in the form of 60 boxes of instant noodles, 15 cardboard AIM biscuits, 200 pieces of raincoats, 200 pieces of blankets, 480 pairs of socks, 288 pairs of gloves, 190 box masks, 10 cardboard sanitary pads, 20 cardboard pampers size L, and 10 cardboard pampers size XL.

Executive Manager of Kompas Humanitarian Fund Foundation Anung Wendyartaka said the mechanism of distributing aid to eruption survivors was handed over entirely to the officers of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lumajang Regency. This is done considering the mapping of refugee needs is still growing, even he also got reports of a number of refugee posts are not ready. Through this mechanism, it is expected that assistance can be provided evenly to survivors.

"This help is from the readers of Kompas Daily. This is a form of concern from a number of residents for other residents who are affected by the disaster. We want the distribution of aid to be done quickly. Because the aid will be able to be utilized if quickly channeled and on target, "explained Anung.

"So, it's better with the mechanism of concentration of aid here. Because, if the posts in the village are ready, it can be distributed directly through the relief post in this center," he added.

On the occasion given, Anung also explained that the total budget of Kompas daily reader donation allocated by YDKK for survivors of the eruption of Mount Semeru amounted to Rp200 million. As for the value of assistance in the distribution of this first stage worth Rp50 million, "This is only the first stage of assistance. This initial distribution is worth around Rp50 million. Later the next distribution we see again what the condition is like, "said Anung.

Head of Logistics Sub-Field BPBD Lumajang Lusianti appreciated the help provided by readers of Kompas Daily. Given the current high rainfall and fairly cold air temperatures, the help of blankets, socks, and gloves is very beneficial for refugees affected by the eruption.

"It's quite a benefit. Right now we need a blanket. So, there's a very precise blanket help. You see, here it's rain, the wind, the air is also cold. Some aid will be directly delivered tonight to a number of refugee posts," Lusianti said.

"Refugees are scattered in various hamlets, villages, to sub-districts. There are also people who are displaced in people's homes. So later the distribution of aid will also spread, "he added.

Furthermore, Lusianti said that the location of the eruption survivors was quite scattered. Currently, the areas targeted by aid delivery are a number of villages in Candipura Subdistrict, namely Jarit Village, Behead village, and Sumberwuluh Village. A number of villages in the Pasirian District and Kunir District are also targeted so that the distribution of this assistance is maximized.
